Tumi Luggage – New E-Commerce Website

Tumi, the leading brand of prestige luggage and accessories, and marketer of America's best selling soft business cases, has announced the launch of its new e-commerce site. The new site, www.tumi.com, was developed under a unique collaboration between Tumi and the technology experts at eBags Technology Services, a wholly-owned subsidiary of eBags.com, the leading e-tail site for travel goods. For the first time ever, consumers will be able to browse color images of the complete range of Tumi products and make on-line purchases at the site. Other features will include company background information and a pressroom featuring current press releases as well as a Tumi in the News section.

Site design, product selection, fulfillment of orders, marketing and all other consumer interface issues will be under Tumi's direction. Software development and site maintenance will continue to be done by eBags Technology Services.

Our goal was to create a site that had the look and feel of our brick and mortar headquarters Tumi stores combined with the customer service and shopping experience of a world-class e-commerce site. While our core strengths are designing world-class luxury products and knowing how to present the Tumi brand to consumers, we don't know how to build and maintain a web site. So we turned to eBags Technology Services, the experts behind the software that powers the most successful e-tailer of luggage and travel goods in the world, said Chad Mellen, Vice President of Marketing, Tumi.

The combined effects of an economic downturn and the attacks of September 11th put serious strains on the travel goods industry forcing Tumi, and others in the industry, to rethink existing marketing strategies. Tumi had been cautious about entering the world of e-commerce, but, seeing the possibilities of e-commerce done the right way, developed the unique strategy of working with eBags Technology Services to leverage the proven strengths of both companies.

eBags has invested four years and millions of dollars to build an e-commerce engine for the travel- and accessory-products industry, perfecting it via trial and error. Today, it is both customer-focused and profitable, says Peter Cobb, co-founder of eBags, which expects to post its second consecutive profitable quarter September 30.

Our goal is to bring the convenience of Internet research and shopping to the TUMI customer, adds Mike Frazzini, VP of eBags Technology Services, while making the online TUMI presentation parallel the premium quality of TUMI products. In addition, even in this difficult economy, our unique inter-industry partnership will make this profitable for both companies from the get-go.
