Luggage Tag Holders – Faster Agriculture Clearance |
|
January 25, 2006 By: June Lee Luggage Tag Holders – Faster Agriculture ClearanceDue to the recent outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in parts of Europe, USDA officials will be available to discuss, as well as respond to, questions regarding USDA's ongoing efforts to protect the United States from agricultural pests and diseases on Wednesday, March 14, at 10:00 a.m. at Dulles International Airport. USDA inspectors will demonstrate the process by which international passenger baggage is inspected and international passengers are questioned. The mock inspection will illustrate the entire agricultural clearance process, including filling out the customs declaration form, being referred to a Plant Protection and Quarantine inspector, having soiled footwear disinfected, and having prohibited products detected in luggage by the Beagle Brigade. In recent weeks, USDA has stepped up efforts to guard against foot-and-mouth disease. This includes prohibiting imports of ruminant products from effected countries, redirecting personnel at airports and ports-of-entry, dispatching a team of experts to evaluate and assist in the United Kingdom, increasing public education and traveler information.
